Tesla, Algae, and Ice Cream – The Totally Consuming Problem of Consumption: Tech talk and Career chat with a Tesla engineer
11/9/18 (1-2 PM)

As the broader world adopts more sustainable forms of energy, allowing a lowering of Emissions Per Capita (EPC), the pressure on world resources paradoxically hasn’t abated. Less people today are below the poverty line; wages and purchasing power’s on a steady rise; there are more sources of income per family; populations are rising; and people are eating (kcal per day), buying, driving, and flying more. Consumerism’s made a furtive recovery and threatens to offset the advances made world-over towards sustainability and EPC. Satyan Chandra (Staff Hardware R&D Engineer, Autopilot and Hardware Technology at Tesla) will discuss the 3 key global energy problems facing us today; suggests targeted ways to address EPC (lbs CO2 per capita), energy density (Wh per volume and mass), energy source (renewable technology), and consumption concerns; highlights the key part Tesla has played so far to vastly catalyze renewable transport globally; and seeks to shed light for Harvard students and recent graduates on the role they can play (at Tesla or elsewhere) to directly tackle the rapidly advancing energy crisis. PLEASE REGISTER THROUGH CRIMSON CAREERS TO ATTEND.
