Hi everyone! My name is Hayat and I am a senior in Currier House (best house!) studying neurobiology. This year I will be Co-Directing Indigo, a peer counseling group that focuses on how different aspects of our identity affect mental health. I will also be Co-Directing the Harvard Black Health Matters Conference, which will focus on health disparities and social determinants that affect health outcomes within the Black community. In the past, I was involved in PBHA and MAPS (Minority Association of Premedical Students). I am also excited to begin research on the effects of maltreatment and adverse childhood experiences on mental health. I’m interested in health disparities and how identity and factors such as race and socioeconomic status can significantly affect health outcomes. I have really enjoyed PAFing for the past two years and am happy to share my experiences, interests, struggles, and advice with those navigating their pre-med experiences!
